REDUCING ROAD CO2 EMISSIONS

A Cleaner Alternative for Urban Air Quality and Public Health

Compared to conventional fossil fuels like diesel and petrol, biomethane offers a range of distinct benefits that make it a superior choice for public transport. One of the most significant advantages is its environmental impact. Biomethane can reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 80% compared to diesel because, unlike fossil fuels, which release carbon stored over millions of years, biomethane is produced from organic waste materials such as agricultural residues, food waste, and sewage. The carbon released during biomethane combustion is part of a natural cycle, making it a near-carbon-neutral fuel. In some cases, it can even achieve a negative carbon footprint, especially when sourced from waste streams like manure or food waste. This happens because biomethane production captures methane that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere, a greenhouse gas that is 25 times more potent than CO₂.

CARBON-NEUTRAL SOLUTIONS

Renewable Energy

Biomethane significantly reduces other harmful emissions, such as nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter, compared to diesel. This helps to improve local air quality, particularly in urban areas where air pollution is a major concern. Reduced emissions lead to cleaner air and lower public health costs, making it a beneficial option for cities focused on reducing their environmental footprint.

Long distance bus

The Nordic countries have established an extensive network of BioCNG/CBG and BioLNG/LBG fueling stations. While Europe settles for a biomethane blend, redos fueling stations in Norway supply biomethane exclusively, giving customers and consumers alike the confidence to invest in sustainable transportation.

The future of biogas is highly promising as a favorable fuel for long distance transport, in particularly catalysed by financial subsidies, incentives and regulation including. Read more under.

FACILITATING BIOSOLUTIONS

The government has provided grant schemes, such as Enova funding, to encourage the construction of new filling stations. Enova offers financial support for projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote the use of renewable energy, including biogas.

Financial Grants and Support Programs

FACILITATING BIOSOLUTIONS

Biogas has been exempt from CO2 tax and road usage tax in Norway, making it a more economically attractive option for the transport sector. This has increased demand for biogas and the need for more filling stations.

Tax Benefits and Exemptions

FACILITATING BIOSOLUTIONS

The government has also supported the development of technologies for the production, upgrading, and distribution of biogas. This helps improve the efficiency and availability of biogas.

Support for Technology Development and Innovation

FACILITATING BIOSOLUTIONS

National climate goals and strategies have included a focus on renewable energy sources, with biogas highlighted as an important solution for reducing emissions in the transport sector. The government's policies have driven the development of the necessary infrastructure.

BioCNG / CBG Public Filling Station

Generally, fast-fill stations are best suited for retail situations where vehicles arrive randomly and need to fill up quickly. All of redo's public bioCNG/CBG stations have a fast-fill option. Fast-fill stations receive fuel from a local utility line at a low pressure and then use a compressor on site to compress the gas to a high pressure. Once compressed, the bioCNG moves to a series of storage vessels so the fuel is available for a quick fill-up. BioCNG can also be delivered via dispensers alongside gasoline or other fuel types, so retrofitting existing fueling stations with environmentally friendly BioCNG is straightforward.

BioLNG / LBG Public Filling Station

BioLNG stations are structurally similar to gasoline and diesel stations in that they have a storage tank, meters, and dispenser. BioLNG dispensers deliver fuel to vehicles at pressures of 30 to 120 psi. Because BioLNG is stored and dispensed as a super-cooled liquefied gas, protective clothing, face shield, and gloves are required when fueling a vehicle, and personnel must also be trained on fueling procedures.

Time-fill for Waste Management Fleets

Time-fill stations are designed to handle multiple vehicles at once. Several fueling points are available where trucks can be parked and connected to individual hoses. This makes it convenient for fleet operators as they can refuel several trucks simultaneously without needing high-speed pumps.

A time-fill station for waste management trucks is an efficient and cost-effective way to keep the fleet fueled and ready for daily operations without disrupting the schedule. It offers energy savings, simplicity, and scalability for large fleets.

Time-fill for Buses

At a time-fill station, the refueling process takes place slowly, typically over several hours, which is why it’s often done when the buses are parked overnight. Buses are connected to the fueling station through individual hoses, and the gas is gradually compressed and delivered into the bus’s fuel tanks.

Because the refueling happens slowly, time-fill stations make better use of available energy during off-peak hours, reducing energy costs.
